At some point, most webs need to have heat removed or applied in order to meet specifications. Heat Transfer rolls: Chill rolls or Heating rolls are then required. Both are essentially of the same design ' the difference being the medium flowing through the roll. That's why it's important to fill out the Heat Transfer Roll Check Sheet form as completely as possible.

C.R.E.W.'s Heat Transfer rolls are designed and manufactured according to the customer's needs and application. Most requirements dictate a double wall, internal spiral configuration for the optimum heat transfer efficiency. However, some basic applications can be achieved with just a single wall design.

We have a number of internal designs that can accommodate most applications, including heavy loads and tight tolerances. Our internal construction is proprietary, but you can trust C.R.E.W. to design and build to your application, not sell you something 'off the shelf'.

C.R.E.W. Heat Transfer rolls are typically made to the following general specifications:
  • Either Mono-flow (in one end out the other) or Duo-flow (in and out the same end) designs.
  • The outer shell is bored through for uniform wall thickness to minimize any potential 'hot spots' that could unduly affect your process.
  • The inner roll is machined for uniform gap and fluid flow.
  • The spirals are sized for optimum fluid flow rate.
  • The inner roll and the complete assembly are pressure tested for any leaks both before and after final machining.
  • The roll ends are machined flush with the roll face ' no recessed headers that accumulate dirt. Smooth, generous radii where the journals meet the headers.
  • No external balance weights ' they can fly off during operation and become dangerous missiles to men and machines.
  • Runout, diameter, straightness and balancing are to your specifications.
  • Chrome or Electroless Nickel plating, or other coatings are available for your application.

Because each chill roll or heating roll is custom designed for your application it is important to fill in as much information as possible on the Heat Transfer Roll Check Sheet, print it out and submit it to us for sizing and quotation.
